I have been making this sweet mini quilt, to be sent to a lady overseas, in a swap organised by Michele. I have had such fun deciding what to use. I have featured Australian, fabric designed by Australian Lynette Anderson. My newest favourite designer.
This one I couldn't get to turn over sorry./ Each Hexagon Flower has been fussy cut to have little messages in the petals, like Sunshine, quilting friends and cute patterns. I added one of Lynette's hand made buttons, of her cat Felix. It was fun to make and I wish I could keep it for myself. Oh I hand quilted it too. Hope She likes it WATTLE GIRLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764834880097192464noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044572502087076276.post-38636277781934790782012-09-02T23:48:00.000-07:002012-09-02T23:48:36.140-07:00My Dad 2012MY DAD
left this life in 2008.
He was my hero, my mentor and friend.
He loved his Mother with a passion I understand , but you rarely see,

"" I would do anything for her"" he once told me"
""She had a hard life and died before she should have""

He helped her by begging for left overs from the Pub. He was one of the oldest.
He sang on the street corner for money so she had food for her children
her many children.
They had one set of clothes each and she sat up
late and washed that one set of clothes and dried it by the fire, so they
had clean clothes in the morning.

He had pretty pale blue eyes and big square rough hard working hands.
that cut our wood, dug in the vegie garden and held us close.

He provided for us in many ways, and in any way.
Some ways my siblings were embarrassed about. I was proud,
it showed he loved us. I loved to help him with his bottles, holding the
bag. My children thought it was great to help Pop.

His father was an alcoholic when he was young, and his family suffered much because of it
Dad told me once that he swore to himself as a young child he would never
drink and he proudly told me when he was 89 he had never ever drunk a drop
of liquor. He had Strong view about drinking.

I never felt safe until he came home late at night when he was on late shift.

He carried me on his shoulders many times. I don't remember , but I am told
To see his friends and to do his work on the farm.
We were always together, when we lived on the farm .

He sold his farm and moved to town, well a few miles out of town, so his
older children could get work and the younger ones better schooling.
He left his beloved farm, I was to learn in later years as Mum had dementia
must have been hard for them, as when we were all together, she would think we were
at Uxbridge again. And the Joy was obvious to any one who was around.

He helped build a chapel, he walked many miles, he loved his brothers and his sister,
they were never far from his thoughts, I dreaded the phone calls"" Ï have some bad news""
when one of them passed away. He cried when his Father died, it was the first time I saw
him cry. He had a soft soft heart. He loved the babies and the children. Tender
feeling are a thing we many of us have inherited. He was fiercly loyal to us his family
I have seen him very angry if we were threatened in anyway.

He grew potatoes to feed us and them, he helped get their wood. he did many things
for his family. WE visited his dad most Sundays when Dad wasn't working.
The dad they would lovingly call'" the Bus'' Hi dad who walked from the nursing
home in New Town to the Zinc works, then on the ferry and the mile to our house
to see his son ( my dad) when he was sick. Then walked back. He was a really old man.
But Love makes you do heroic things.

He cut our wood, only the best , for us. He did many acts of service unknown to any one.
Even us. I learned of a few after he had gone. He was a private man, who loved God and
Knew that God loved him. He wanted truth for us.
He was a diligent Home teacher, and transported many people , to church , going out
of his way to do so.

He never told me he was proud of me , not until my oldest son go on a mission did he
tell me he loved me. We didn't do that in our family. We just knew.

He loved my mother so much. I only heard them squabble once in my life.
I loved it when we had dances at church , to see him hold her close and dance with
her. and hold her like she was special to him.

He loved bread and Jam, and to scrape the Jam pan. He found fruit for us to preserve and
to make into Jam. He wasted nothing. Compost for the garden .
He still had his dancing shoes when he died. And his suit.

He loved to talk and he talked to anyone. He had the gift of being
able to hold a conversation with rich and poor alike.
He was a fair man, but if you did wrong to him or his he would not like that at all.
You would not be ''ïn his good books"" You sure didnt want to be in his bad book

He loved to have fun, when his family got together there were lots of stories and and LAUGHTER
he whistled when he was happy.
He would be hoarse when he had been to see his beloved New Norfolk football team , which was
often as he could. Saw his brothers there. He only stopped going as Mum got more forgetful and
locked herself out of the house, and she was cold and upset when he got home.

We sat by the fire and ate apples of a night and us girls would comb his hair. He loved that.
we did too
He sat by the fire a lot as he got older. He still split his wood when he was 90.

He loved to go to the Temple. Was proud of his Grandsons when they were baptised and got the priesthood, then when they went on missions. It was as good as if he had gone. he would say.
He is the patriarch of a good family. He was a good man. He went to church every chance he got.

It must have been hard for him when any of us moved far away. Every Monday there would be
a letter in the letter box from Mum and Dad for us. Never failed. Sometimes with a few dollars
tucked inside for some icecream for the kids. Not often ,but occassionally . Letters were less
when we moved to USA but they came.

He gave me his blessing to go to America to James. But I knew it was hard.
He was so excited when we came back.

I felt honoured to have helped them in their last years. I felt I needed to as I appreciated all
He and Mother had done for me. My way of saying I love you to them .

I am sad I can no longer go see My Dad. But I see his eyes in two of my grandchildren. I see
his ways in them too and in my sons as they have his ways.

just to say hello. The post I wanted to write about the Peaches will have to wait. As I have to go keep two excited little boys one 7 and one 6, who love one another to bits, but only get to spend lots of time together when at Grandma's. They are having such fun. Me too. Scones and Jam and cream for tea. And a chat about who taught their dads to make Scones. what fun. The wanted to help but were too busying doing everything there is to do hear. Plus talk talk they haven't stopped both at the same time. Such fun. Love these Grandie Days. Hope I have many more of them.WATTLE GIRLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764834880097192464noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044572502087076276.post-2744927921266623862012-05-08T00:07:00.001-07:002012-05-08T00:07:42.703-07:00

I never know if the daughters in law want me to sew for them or not, so I sew on and maybe hurt feelings, I just don't know. But I love these wee ones so much and sewing is a way I can show then I do.

We have had some really wee ones to visit in the last couple of weeks. During the prayer we say on the food, I mention how much I loved little miss 3. She was looking at me oddly at the end of the Amen. She said "grandma you say funny things in the prayer""

Never having a Grandma I feel so blessed to have these little people in my life right now.

We also had two sisters to stay for a few hours. They were so excited to have moved into the
Girls Room and one tells me the other snores. How sweet. Then we have a lunch of fairy bread , banana and a drink. Miss 2 announces "Grandma , this is the best picnic we have ever had. "we took our lunch outside in the summer in the shade and ate. and talked and loved being together. How Blessed I am . And very Thankful for each of the 10 Grand babies the Lord has blessed me with.
I am OK with it most of the time, but sometimes the "Little Green Eyes monster in me wants to get angry with her. She is his part time mistress. I say part time as the other part of him loves the cats and the Pup of my daughter then me. So I am not left out. Its a good job I am a good cook, or so he tells me. The under arm movement wasn't too bad so into the sewing room I go. The old Elna had been playing up, so I fiddled and fiddled trying to get the tension right. I was sure it was cotton stuck in the bobbin case somewhere. ( Have since found out the needle was back the front, well D'oh!). So decided to get out the spare machine I have. It has been so long I had forgotten how to use it.

So I set it on the table and was looking up something in the sewing machine manual, when all of a sudden off the machine went , like a race horse in the Melbourne cup, sewing by itself.

The smell was awful!!!!! Like burning old sox. So here I was with he will and no way.

So My dear man suggested , I use some of the money I have been holding on to to buy a new machine. So out to Esmes we go and I come home with a new you beaut sewing machine. It threads itself and has many speeds and is light and sews like a dream. (I am in love with it) it is so quiet I even sew in the lounge room, in the warm. I have been very productive.
I made the quilt "circle of Friends"for Miss Milly , just 20 months too late .
I made it and quilted it on the machine. I am so proud of it . My first proper quilting!!

Then my dear daughter told us they were gettign a new puppy. Too much life. Radiation kind of did things to me that made me leave the human race for a while. Example Sleeping , yes it is possible for me to sleep 18 to 20 hours a day. I am just starting to wake up at 10 am. Some days I can do it earlier if I really have too, but I am to be seen hugging the couch most nights. So just keeping up with day to day things like laundry and sleeping in a clean bed are a priority.
Enough, I don't want to revisit there. It was all too hard.
But soon I will be doing the Doctors revisits to see what they have to say. I am feeling better. I have a bad back ( ruptured disc) and a knee that needed a choritisone injection, and joy I could walk without pain. But of course t his is all due to me being a big girl. Just ask the Doctors. What do you tell he skinny people who have these problems. "They have them for different reasons""
Oh really so why cant I ?? Cause you are overweight.
So if you are over weight loose it. as even a cold is blamed on being over weight.

I am back. sitting in the sun, sewing again after a log long time of not . James is getting an electirc wheel chair. soon, so I wont have to push him any more >>I hope . if we can get it in the van of course.
Life is good , love my kids , and my grandbabies. They make me happy. I am blessed!!WATTLE GIRLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764834880097192464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044572502087076276.post-56399595399724044322010-12-27T21:46:00.000-08:002010-12-27T22:03:26.836-08:00Christmas Surprises
I have been lucky enough to have some of Mothers old fashioned Christmas Lillie's that last for ages and smell so good.

I was sitting in the garden recovering from pulling out some grass, get tired these days from radiation treatment on the breast cancer so have to sit and recover a lot
When I saw what I thought was cellophane paper . when I investigated I found to my delight this lily.

This is my beloved Mount Direction. I walked up the right hand side aged about 14 with a couple of friends. This was the view from our bedroom window. I loved its moods and colours. I hated it when fire threatened it. The views from the top were my first experience of real views, love the memories.

We also visited the childhood home, it is rather different now. Dad's precious sheds have gone. and a better view of the house is had. Memories. The window showing white was my bedroom.

For us it is because Luci Phyllis Gladys Terry joined our expanding family she is so sweet . I haven't met h er in person yet. I have the dreaded cold/flu with the cold sores that are so dangerous to newborns. So I will get all well before I meet her. I have been told lost about her. like she weighted 8lbs 8oz and she has dark hair. Her brother and sisters have the gorgeous shades of Strawberry blonde . So she will be a stand out beauty in her family. We will meet her soon and love her to bits. I never thought I would have children, much less be the grandma to 9 gorgeous angels. WE are proud of our kids and grand babies. Who are all as excited as we are that another soul has been entrusted into our family.
WATTLE GIRLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764834880097192464noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5044572502087076276.post-9280529184801826002010-05-10T04:16:00.001-07:002010-05-10T04:21:21.508-07:00the CROW BOOT
This is not the miracle we thought it would be. It weighs 3 half kgs, is cumbersome, has to be changed twice a day. They at first expected us to keep it on 24/7. No way not sleeping with that. And you thought spurs were a bad idea. So we change it for a lighter softer version at night, still hurts if it kicks you.

BIG SIGH! such is life. AND we are gettign a second one on the other foot real soon. Are we excited, yes to wash the leg, and to treat the ulcers . Having the caste changed every two weeks to treat the ulcers underneath. Oh the fun and excitement . WE have !

WATTLE GIRLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764834880097192464noreply@blogger.com0
